Giving a Cat Bath
I gave Finn a bath last weekend for the first time (she had taken baths before, but never done by me). It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. Surprisingly, she was pretty well behaved. She didn’t go running around the bathroom while I was shampooing her or washing her. She did try to hide every now and then, but at least she wasn’t going wild.
The trickier part was drying her. She would escape from my grasp and go hiding behind the toilet or wherever she could squeeze herself into. Especially when I brought out a hair dryer. She would run in circles around the bathroom and I’d follow her around with it. She was already half dry when I gave up, but that was enough.
An hour later, she was thoroughly dry and considerably more fluffy (which I credit to the shampoo). It was so hard to resist cuddling her (but I had to, for my sake!).

Ear Cleaning
Here I thought that cutting Finn’s nails was hard. But you should try cleaning her ears! The moment I touch her ear, she would shake her head, stand up and walk away. Sometimes I am able to successfully examine her ear to see how clean (or dirty) it is, but she would then put her paw against my arm (thankfully, with her claws not bared). Of course I stop what I’m doing because I don’t want to take any chances – her nails have grown long again!
We went to the vet again last weekend for her shots and to have her ears checked again for ear mites. The results were still negative, but the vet prescribed some ear drops I’m supposed to give Finn. However, I’m supposed to remove any discharge before I put the drops. I thought that wouldn’t be a problem, since the vet cleaned her ears already when we went there. But surprisingly, her ear was already filthy by the time Monday rolled around. So we did the whole ear cleaning routine (it probably took me 30 minutes to manage to clean one ear) and then I proceeded to put the medicine (which took me another 30 minutes). It was kind of funny because I would put the dropper near her ear, and just when the medicine was about to come out, she would shake her head.
It seems though that Finn doesn’t want to sleep on my bed anymore. I think maybe she’s mad at me or something. Hahaha! I try to explain to her that I don’t put her through all that just to give her a hard time…Hopefully she understands! I suppose I had better get her some cat treats to compensate for all the stress I put her through.

Missing Finn
I was away for 4 days and was so worried about Finn! No one was around to clean her litter box and check that she had lots of food and water. Plus she was cooped up in my room with nothing to do.
When I got home, her food and water dishes were empty already, but she didn’t seem to mind. Rather, she immediately came near me and started rubbing herself against my legs and arms. I let her out of the room so that she could stretch a bit and I played with her using a feather and some ribbon. While she was out, I also opened the window to my room, to let it air out a bit because it was starting to smell really bad! Later on, when I went out the room to start looking for Finn, I couldn’t find her anywhere and was scared to death when I found out that she had somehow slipped into the room and was perched by the window. It’s a good thing she didn’t jump out!
I’ll be bringing her to the Vet again over the weekend, so that she could get her shots. Also, I think she does have ear mites because her left ear is so dirty, even if it was just cleaned recently. I didn’t bother to clean it anymore, because the Vet mentioned that its harder to tell if there are ear mites after it has been cleaned. Anyway, I’m sure she’ll know what to do, so I’ll just wait for her advice.

Finn's First Visit to the Vet
We brought Finn to the Vet for the first time today. I was actually a bit apprehensive about it, because it was my first time to personally bring a pet to the Vet. But the Vet (Doc Kathleen) was really nice and answered whatever questions we had.
Finn was really uncomfortable about it and would keep on squirming when we would hold her. Especially when we had her nails trimmed and when the Vet gave her a dewormer. Afterwards, she just hid inside her cage with her ears down and her teeth bared – her defensive stance.
Doc Kathleen mentioned to us that Finn might have ear mites, so we have to observe her ear discharge for a few days. We’ll be bringing Finn to her again very soon to have her vaccinated and everything. Hopefully, she’ll be more behaved this time around.

Finn's New Home
Finn moved in to my place last May 29. The moment we set her down in my room, she started sniffing around and exploring her new home. When she got bored, she settled down underneath my bed and refused to come out. Until I brought out her food, of course.
It used to be really hard to get Finn to stay in bed. Now I find it hard to get her off my bed! In fact, the other night, she positioned herself right in the middle and would not budge. I’ve got cat fur all over the place so I wouldn’t be surprised if I go to the office with fur on my clothes or hair. LOL!
It’s really quite an experience having a cat at home. It’s really amusing to watch her climb into my closet or watch her sleep all curled up into a little ball with her paw over her eyes. I love coming home and cuddling her (even for just a few seconds) in my arms. Even cleaning her litter box isn’t so bad. I haven’t tried bathing her because I’m still waiting for the shampoo I ordered. But I’ve tried cutting her nails and successfully trimmed one!!! LOL! It’s really a big deal for me, because normally, she wouldn’t even let me get anywhere near her paw.=)
Both of my siblings really like Finn because she’s so cute and well behaved. We’ve got two cat-lovers in the making! Hopefully, Finn will stay with us for a long time.

Moving In
My guy might be moving out of his house and moving back into the city. However, Finn can’t stay with him so she might be moving to my place!
I’m really quite excited because I will finally have a cat to take care of by myself. I’m just hoping that my brother and sister won’t mind having her around. Aside from the bad smell of her poop, they probably won’t even notice she’s there. Well, except for the cat fur that will probably be all over their clothes or her meows when she’s in heat. Hmm…on second thought, maybe I should already warn them of what to expect. And I should already start cat-proofing our condo!

Pet Forums
This is something a little bit off-topic, but somehow still related to my cats.
I’m really glad to have found a pet forum where I can discuss things relating to my cat. It all started with Philippine Pet Finder but there are now some new pet forums. Its kind of funny because I just keep on seeing the same people in each of the forums, and we discuss the same topics. I actually have no particular preference as to which one to lurk in because I visit all and just post where I find some interesting threads. Of course, PPF has more topics as of now since it has been around the longest, so that’s usually the one I go back to repeatedly. The newer ones are Philippine Pet Lovers and Philippine Pets, which you can access by clicking on my links.
What I love the most about these forums is that the people are really friendly and would answer even the seemingly silly questions. They are genuine pet lovers who would do everything for their pet’s best interests.
